SIBU: The People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) Pedada Community Service Centre has been commended for being very active.

Assistant superintendant of Sibu Rela unit, Awis Adenan, who made the hearty comment Tuesday, said the centre under its chairman Joseph Lim, had contributed much towards the security of Sibu.

“Rela members are the eyes and ears of the government,” he said during a farewell dinner held in his honour at Li Hua Hotel here.

Awis officially retired on Sept 12.

Urging more people to join Rela, Awis said members would be given training, including weapon-handling, and provided with training allowance, insurance coverage and free medical attention for injuries sustained while on duty.

“Those aged 18 and above with good character, and physically and mentally fit, are eligible tojointhe force,” he said.
