KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said yesterday there is a need to review the case of a 29-year-old man who has been sentenced to death for providing medicinal cannabis oil.

“I think we should review that,” he said to reporters when asked to comment on the matter after he had addressed the Conference of the Electric Power Supply Industry (CEPSI) 2018 here.

Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar was reported to have said that she would write an appeal to Attorney-General Tommy Thomas seeking a pardon for Muhammad Lukman who was sentenced to death for possessing, processing and distributing cannabis oil for medical reasons.

She had labelled the death sentence meted out to him by the Shah Alam High Court on Aug 30 as a miscarriage of justice. — Bernama
