BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei ruler Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah granted an audience to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday in conjunction with the latter’s two-day working visit to the country.

Abang Johari is leading a high-powered delegation, which includes deputy chief ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, to enhance economic cooperation and collaboration between Sarawak and Brunei.

Abang Johari’s wife Datin Patinggi Dato Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang was granted a separate audience by Sultan Hassanal’s consort Queen Saleha at the palace.

Earlier, the delegation was involved in a bilateral ministerial meeting chaired by Brunei’s Primary Resources and Tourism Minister Dato Seri Setia Awang Ali Apong.

Following the audience, the chief minister and others visited bridge construction site at Sungai Kebun linking Brunei and its Temburong district – targeted to be completed next year – to make it the longest in Southeast Asia, while Juma’ani and her entourage visited Brunei Arts and Handicraft Training Centre.

Members of the state delegation include State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani, deputy state secretaries Datu Abu Bakar Marzuki and Datu Sabariah Putit, and Uggah’s wife Datin Amar Doreen Mayang.

The delegation departed for Kuching last night.
