KOTA KINABALU: Umno Sabah remains strong and intact even though Kimanis Umno Division chief Datuk Seri Anifah Aman had left the party.

Sabah Umno Woman chief Datuk Hajah Jainab Datuk Haji Ahmad Ayid said Anifah’s decision did not affect the loyalty of Umno members in continuing the party’s struggle.

“Umno Sabah remains intact; in Umno as in any other political parties, leaders come and go. When a leader leaves the party, the place will be filled by other leaders.”

“What’s happening in Umno now (Anifah out of Umno) is a process that can help ease and strengthen Umno’s struggle in Sabah,” she said in a statement yesterday.

Jainab said Umno Sabah Women respected Anifah’s decision to choose his own political path after a long time with the party.

On Wednesday Anifah, who is also Kimanis member of parliament, announced that he was leaving Umno as it could no longer fulfill the promise of restoring the rights of Sabah and Sarawak as provided in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Jainab was optimistic that Umno Sabah members would not be discouraged with the current situation of Umno.

Jainab agreed with the statement by Umno Women’s Head of Malaysia, Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad that what has passed was not a sign of Umno’s end as there were still other committed leaders who were dedicated and persevering in restoring the party.

Jainab, who is also Sepanggar Wanita Umno division chief, said Umno Sabah would continue to champion the interests and rights of the people including the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
She also reminded Umno members to remain loyal to the party’s struggle.
