MIRI: A man was killed after the cement lorry he was travelling in crashed into a large ditch at Miri-Marudi Road this afternoon.

The victim, identified as 66-year-old David Banggai Nyuak, died at the scene.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Miri chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said eight firefighters led by operation commander senior fire officer Peter Ngumbang were deployed to the scene after receiving call on the incident at 1.12pm.

“The operation commander reported that upon arrival of the team at the scene, they found that a cement mixer truck had lost its control and fell into a ditch on the shoulder of the road.

“The impact from the crash caused the lorry driver to get stuck in his seat,” he said.

Law said the team had received excavating help from a nearby palm oil company to lift the front of the lorry to facilitate them in their rescue operation which ended at 4.20pm.

He added that the body of the deceased was later brought to the police for further action.
