Police to call up Najib over 1MDB probe


KUALA LUMPUR: The police said yesterday they will soon call up former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak over the investigation into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh said the police need information from Najib to complete the investigation into the case.

He said the police have so far recorded more than 70 statements from various individuals, including former 1MDB CEO Arul Kanda Kandasamy.

“The police called up 1MDB CEO Arul Kanda Kandasamy last Tuesday over the content of his talks on 1MDB before the 14th general election last May,” he said at a press conference here.

Najib faces four charges of corruption involving RM2.282 billion of 1MDB funds deposited into his personal account and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.  He also faces three counts of criminal breach of trust and one charge of abuse of power involving RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd and three counts of money laundering involving the same amount. — Bernama
