BELAGA: The Belaga Waterfront project costing RM4 million which will be constructed in two phases is expected to be completed in nine months’ time.

The Sarawak government-funded project, undertaken by JVC Utama Sdn Bhd, will commence next month.

Yesterday, Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali representing Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, conducted the-earth breaking ceremony.

Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, who was also present at the function, meanwhile, said the project would be carried out without federal government funding.

He said RM4 million had been allocated by the Sarawak government to beautify Belaga’s landscape.

He said with the completion of the waterfront, Belaga would have a new image.

Touching on the Belaga Regatta, Ugak said it would be held once in two years.

“Regatta is the best platform for our multi racial and multi ethnic society to promote our respective cultures.

“It is also one of tourist attractions, a symbol of our unity and harmony.”
