SIBU: Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union (KGBS) Sibu branch organised the ‘Program Sembang-Sembang Guru dan Perundangan’ to expose teachers, in particular its members, to legal matters associated with their roles as educators.

A lawyer, Anisa Fadhillah Mohd Jamel was invited to expound on legislations pertaining to education at the programme held here on Saturday.

KGBS hoped that through this programme, its members would have better understanding on the related legislations towards strengthening their roles and responsibilities as educators as they are constantly faced with challenges from students and society.

This was the fifth of such programme after the one held in KGBS Kuching, Miri, Lawas and Bintulu branches.

In his brief remarks, KGBS president Ahmad Malie urged members to continue discharging their respective duties responsibly in efforts to further strengthen the teaching profession. KGBS hopes that teaching profession will always be respected by students, besides the netizen community.

“In addition, KGBS stressed that teachers have sacrificed and contributed much to the well-being of the society.

“In this regard, KGBS calls on all to work closely with teachers to further strengthen the nation’s education performance,” he said.

Ahmad also revealed that one of the efforts by KGBS was to strive towards elevating the teaching profession by exposing teachers, particularly KGBS members, on current legislations in education.

Among those present were KGBS treasurer Siti Abdillah and KGBS Sibu branch chairperson Rohani Abu Bakar.
