KUALA KANGSAR: A trailer lorry driver was remanded for two days from yesterday over the investigation into a road accident in which five people burned to death.

Magistrate Noorhidayah Mohd Saad issued the remand order to facilitate the probe, involving the 41-year-old suspect, under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

An accident involving a trailer lorry and a car at 11.47am last Saturday on the north-bound lane of the North-South Expressway after the Menora Tunnel resulted in the five people in the car burning to death.

It is learned the dead were three women above 60, a 37-year-old woman and a one-year-old boy. They were believed to have been travelling from Selangor to Taiping to attend a religious ceremony.

Two people believed to family members are believed to have gone to the Kuala Kangsar Hospital here yesterday to undergo DNA tests to confirm the identity of the dead. — Bernama
