KUCHING: Petronas aims to implement holistic and sustainable corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes that focus on addressing the needs of the community.
Its Sarawak regional office media engagement department manager Johannes Ridu said CSR programmes are centred on three key pillars, namely community wellbeing and development, education, and environment.
“At Petronas, we strive to work closely with the media to ensure our organisation is given a fair share of positive publicity, especially on our contributions to nation building and to wellbeing and development, education and the environment.
“In Sarawak, our CSR programmes are carefully planned and carried out in close consultation and collaboration with the state government to ensure that these efforts positively and meaningfully impact the lives of the targeted communities,” he said.
He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the MLNG-Petronas-KDJA Sports Day at Damai Beach Resort in Santubong near here, last Saturday attended by some 200 media practitioners, members of Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA) and officials from Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG) and Petronas.
In this respect, Johannes said due recognition must be given to members of the media for their role in highlighting the plight and challenges faced by underprivileged communities, and their support towards corporate entities like Petronas in its continuous efforts to identify and reach out to these communities.
“For every plight and challenge, there are also heartwarming accounts of how hardships and hurdles are overcome through appropriate programmes and assistance,” he added.
Therefore, he said acknowledgement and accolades must be extended to members of the media for recounting these success stories, so that everyone is inspired to work harder to empower these communities.
“We hope that our friends in the media here in Sarawak and elsewhere will continue to pursue stories that will support the noble efforts of the Sarawak government and Petronas towards the betterment of the society.”
The MLNG-Petronas-KDJA Sports Day, which kicked-off Sept 4, comprised badminton, bowling, beach football, tug-of-war and beach volleyball competitions.
The finale last Saturday was officiated by Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, who represented Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Members of the press were also feted to a barbeque dinner, where prizes were presented to competition winners.
Among those present at the dinner were MLNG public affairs manager Norazibah Md Rabu, Sarawak Press Photographers Association (SPPA) chairman Radzi Bujang and KDJA chairperson Jacquelin
