MIRI: Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) wants Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) elected reps to make sure that the discussions on Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) to be carried out in the November DUN sitting before any decisions are made.

Its co-founder Erick Chin said he felt uncomfortable after Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Liew Vui Kiong reportedly said on Monday that a special cabinet committee would be formed to review and coordinate the implementation of MA63. He thought that any decision related to Sarawak’s future must not be made in a hurry.

“For a start, they must tell the people (of Sarawak and Sabah) about Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution, and restore it, The article states that Sabah and Sarawak are equal partners with Malaya in the federation. It is only then that the MA63 can be fully implemented,” said Chin when contacted yesterday.

The dissemination of such information must be made through all big and small media portals so that the people, especially Sarawakians and Sabahans, could fully understand their rights, he added.

Chin warned that GPS must not take the matter into their own hands without seeking the consent of the people (of Sarawak) as it could cost them dearly in the next Sarawak election.
