SANDAKAN: A woman in her 20s was saved by her parents after she attempted suicide by drinking about 20 ml of Clorox bleach, on Tuesday.

She was brought to Hospital Duchess of Kent (HDOK) emergency department around 9.50am after her parents suspected that she had drunk bleach at her house near Mile 12 here, and had vomited and suffered stomach pain.

Her condition was reported to be stable and was released from the hospital yesterday.

According to Sandakan district police chief ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin, early investigation by the police found that the incident happened at the woman’s house at Sungai Manila People’s Housing Project Mile 12 here.

It started when the woman was scolded by her mother for disrespecting her boyfriend’s family who visited them from Sarawak.

The woman then felt depressed as she did not mistreat her boyfriend’s family, and opined that her mother had trusted other people’s words instead of hers. The woman then drank about 20 ml of bleach.

Azhar said the case was being investigated under Section 309 of the Penal Code.
