LABUAN: Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties here have hailed the move by Labuan MP Datuk Rozman Isli to quit Umno and join Parti Warisan Sabah, saying it is a timely decision.
Amanah Labuan coordinator Datuk Seri Amir Hussien said Rozman’s entry into Warisan is a recognition of the Pakatan Harapan struggle for the people and the nation.
“The more leaders from Barisan Nasional (BN) join Pakatan Harapan the better, as this is a positive sign and recognition of the government,” he said to reporters after witnessing the handing over of the Warisan membership form by Rozman to the party secretary-general, Loretto Padua here yesterday.
Amir said Rozman’s experience and knowledge as a two-term MP could help add value to PH’s efforts in bringing development to Labuan.
“We will be working together and with the Amanah Labuan leaders’ close rapport with the federal government leaders, we will do our level best to help reactivate Labuan’s economic activities with our economic strategic plans as discussed with the Federal Territories Ministry recently,” he said.
PKR Labuan deputy chief Adnan Mohd Khatim said all the component parties and Warisan as the PH partner would strengthen their relationship for the betterment of Labuan’s economy.
Warisan Labuan chief coordinator Salim Abdul Rahman said the division foresaw no obstacles of working together with the former Umno Labuan chief.
“We welcome him joining our party, and we feel he could help strengthen the party here, and we will meet him on various people’s issues soon,” he said.
DAP Labuan pro tem secretary Jeremy Wong said Rozman’s entry into Warisan creates another ‘interesting’ political event on the island.
“After so many years, we finally witness today (yesterday) that he has lost faith in the Barisan Nasional (BN) and left his party.
“Generally, I think, his entry into Warisan is well accepted by the people here, and we will be working together in the spirit of Pakatan Harapan,” he said.
Bersatu Labuan pro tem chief Asroh Sukardi said: “Rozman has made a wise decision in leaving Umno and joining Warisan, and this is for the continuity of the socio-economic development in Labuan.” — Bernama
