KUCHING: A voter from Meluan, Kaya Usit, is surprised as to how the names of his wife and three children are included in the membership list of PKR Julau.

He said his wife, two daughters and a son, did not fill any PKR membership form, adding they neither met any representatives nor officials of the local PKR office about membership.

“The question I want to ask is: Are their names automatically listed as PKR members by virtue of being voters in Julau?

“I want to know the answer since my wife and children did not fill any form nor met with anyone from PKR Julau regarding the matter,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Kaya, his wife and three children are all voters in Julau parliamentary constituency. According to him, he saw their names in the membership list when he checked in the Internet although his own name was not listed.

The issue of the astronomical rise in the number of PKR Julau members from 603 on June 26 this year to a staggering13,000 just a day later, was reported recently by The Borneo Post.

Julau MP is Larry Sng, who won the seat on an independent ticket but joined PKR shortly after the May 9 general election. Larry is also an aspiring candidate for the PKR Julau chairman post as well as going for one of the party’s Central Leadership Council positions.

Meanwhile, a source close to the party said it is a serious criminal offence to use someone’s personal details like IC number and address without permission to register them with a political party, as it is a breach of the Data Protection Act 2010.
