Fire at its height at one block of the squatter settlement.
BINTULU: A woman was hospitalised for burns after a fire gutted seven houses at the squatter settlement in Kampung Pisang along the coastal road on Sunday afternoon.
Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department dispatched 13 firemen to the settlement after a distress call was received at 6.40pm.
Bintulu Bomba station chief Mohamad Meramit said the flames were contained at 7.13pm and the injured woman was sent to hospital by members of the public.
He said there was no fire hydrant orwater source at the settlement forcing firemen to use the water tanker which was parked about 800 metres away on the main road due to the narrow road entrance.
Mohamad said 18 people were left homeless in the fire. The cause and losses of the blaze are being investigated.
