KUALA LUMPUR: The Youth and Sports Ministry will meet with the Education Ministry to identify steps to improve the education system in sports schools in the country.

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the government was committed to ensuring that existing sports schools provided an academic system which met the needs of the students.

“I will pass on this information to Dr Maszlee Malik (Education Minister) who is looking after the sports schools so that we can fine-tune the steps to tackle the negative image of sports schools.

“We want to give our commitment to the development of the sports education system in Malaysia where the schools have to be good, focus should not only be on day schools but also the sports schools,” he told reporters when met at the Parliament Lobby today.

Syed Saddiq was commenting on a news report that many former students of sports schools faced difficulty getting professional jobs.

He said measures would be implemented to counter the public’s negative perception of sports schools especially those who were interested to study there. – Bernama
