GEORGE TOWN: Two dead, one injured and nine more could have been buried alive in a landslide today at Jalan Bukit Kukus in Paya Terubong near here.

It is learned that the landslide, which occurred at 1.56 pm at the construction site of the paired road from Paya Terubong to Relau, buried four containers.

“Initial information shows that 10 people could have been buried alive. The landslide covers an area estimated to be 500 ft by 200 ft,” according to a WhatsApp message from the Penang Fire and Rescue Department.

Meanwhile, Penang Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said in a WhatsApp message to the media that three people died and 12 are missing in the landslide.

State Public Works, Utilities and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari is expected to go the landslide area after the ongoing weekly meeting of the state executive council.
