Orange Fest to promote niche products of Bintangor

BINTANGOR: The Orange Fest (Pesta Limau) 2018 kicked off yesterday to showcase the various facets of Bintangor and its people.

Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing launched the week- long festival which aims to promote niche products of the district.

Among the activities to be held is the Bintangor Kitchen offering various unique recipes and local delicacies to the visitors.

Apart from activities and exhibition to promote the culture and socio-economy of the local community, there will be games and entertainment events held until Oct 28.

Among the events expected to attract huge crowd is ‘Bintangor Got Talent’ for which preliminary rounds have been slated for Oct 20-21 while the final round will be held on the night of Oct 24.

Bintangor Night Run event for men and women categories was held last evening, with the 5-kilometre run for men offering RM300, RM200 and RM100 for first, second and third prizes while the 3-kilometre run for women offered RM150, RM100 and RM80 for first, second and third prizes respectively.

The power  boat race featuring Pump Boat (back engine); 18 HP long boat; Pump Boat (front engine); 18 HP Tunnel Boat; 3HP Speed boat; 30 HP (3 piston) Tunnel boat; 50 HP Tunnel Boat; 30 HP (2 piston) Tunnel Boat; SST 60 Class Tunnel boat will begin with heat races on Oct 27.

The final races for all events on Oct 28 will include a special race for 30 HP (3 piston) Tunnel boat category to vie for Edmund Jugah Memorial Cup.

A mass aerobic exercise will be held on Oct 27 while the night’s programme will feature a beauty contest (Ratu Pesta Limau Bintangor 2018) themed “ Saloma Era”.

Among the sports events organised is a 9-aside Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing Cup football competition.

Among those present during the launching ceremony were Deputy Sarikei Resident Abang Mohd Porkan Abang Budiman and District Officer Haron Mahidi.
