KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Home Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman wants the mastermind of drug pushing activities in Sepanggar to be hunted down and arrested.

The Sepanggar Member of Parliament said this is because Sepanggar was notoriously known as the center for drug dealing and drug abuse.

“I want to clean up Sepanggar and in order to do this, we must stop the mastermind of the illegal activity. While we may not be able to rid Sepanggar totally of this menace, we will do the best we can,” he said after a police operation at four villages in Sepanggar yesterday.

Azis urged enforcement agencies, especially the police and National Anti Narcotics Agency to coordinate in operations to flush out the ‘big fish’ in drug related activities so that they can be arrested.

He also promised to personally reward those who cooperate and provide information to the enforcement agencies leading to the arrest of those involved in the illegal activities in Sepanggar.

Meanwhile, District Police Chief ACP Habibi Majinji said OPS Sarang was conducted at Kampung Lokub, Kampung Lok Buno, Taman Bukit Setia and Taman Jaya Diri Sepanggar.

The operation from 3pm on Saturday to 6am ON Sunday morning saw 31 people, including three women, arrested by police for drug related offences.

The suspects were aged between 16 to 51 years old, Habibi said adding that a total of 6.88 grams of syabu were seized from them.

Investigations will be conducted under Section 39(A)(1), Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, he said.
