IPOH: A jobless man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday with the murder of his father on Oct 9.

However, no plea was recorded from the accused You Poh Khoon, 52, after the charge was read out to him by the interpreter in Cantonese before Magistrate Siti Hafiza Jaafar.

The man was alleged to have committed murder by causing the death of You Su Kim, 74, between 9.30am and 1.30pm at their house in Khantan Baru Chemor here.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

Earlier, prosecuting officer from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), ASP Zuraidah Mohd Noor urged the court to grant permission to send the accused to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Tanjung Rambutan here, for a month only for observation.

The court then allowed the accused to be sent to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta for a month and set Nov 16 for mention.

Perak CID chief SAC Yahya Abdul Rahman had earlier said the suspect was believed to have killed his father by severing his head and chopping the victim’s body into six parts after his father angrily scolded him for taking drugs in the house.

According to Yahya, the head of the elder was buried in the backyard, while the body parts were dumped into a 1.5-metre deep sewage hole. — Bernama
