SIBU: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarikei has lodged a complaint with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the dubious membership status within its own sub-branch.

PKR Sarikei sub-branch chairman Wong Ching Tung said he found out that there was a sudden surge of 1,051 memberships in a single day.

“We have not received any new member since 2014. Suddenly on June 27, 2018, there was an increase of 1,051 members in just one day.

“As the chairman for PKR Sarikei sub-branch, I did not receive any application for new membership and I was not aware that 1,051 individuals had registered as members of PKR Sarikei,” he told a press conference yesterday.

He said as of June 26 this year, the sub-branch only had 346 members, but that it now supposedly has 1,397 members.

“It seems that most of these ‘new’ members are from Pakan,” he added.

According to Wong, he lodged a police report regarding this irregularity of registration a

few days ago, and was advised by an officer to also lodge a report with MACC.

“I believe this sharp increase in membership would not be possible unless there was some hanky-panky going on at the party central.”

He further claimed that PKR Julau and PKR Kanowit had also experienced the same problem.

Present with Wong at the press conference were PKR Sarikei deputy chairman Ngu Tieng Hai, secretary Peter Kong and Youth chief Yee Chin Kui.
