SIBU: After its inaugural in 2017, Mr Kenyalang bodybuilding and physique competition returns for its second year this month.
It will be hosted by Sibu Division Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Association (SDBWA) on Nov 17 at Kingwood Hotel here.
Its president Chia Soon Seong said the event is only open to Sarawakians.
“The first edition of the championships received encouraging response from bodybuilders,” he said after a meeting on the Mr Kenyalang 2018 championships at Sibu Civic Centre yesterday.
“We strive to make Mr Kenyalang our annual signature event – one that unearths potential bodybuilding talents and also highlights the present line-up of Sarawak athletes,” he added.
Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh has been invited to officiate at the opening ceremony.
Mr Kenyalang 2018 is recognised by Sarawak Bodybuilding Association (SBBA), which will provide technical support.
It is also supported by Borneo Bodybuilding Supplement (BBS), the event’s key sponsor.
The four categories which are open for entries are bodybuilding below and above 70kg, and physique below and above 170cm.
Registration fees are RM50 for bodybuilding and RM30 for physique category.
Only Malaysians who have been living in Sarawak for more than one year can apply.
Those who have taken part in any competitions that are not sanctioned by SDBWA, SBBA, or the Malaysian Bodybuilding Federation (MBBF) are not eligible for Mr Kenyalang.
“Sarawak-born athletes who are residing outside Sarawak are also eligible,” added Chia.
Bodybuilding champions will bring home RM2,500 and a trophy each, while the respective runners-up will get RM1,500, RM1,000, RM500 and RM300.
Winners in the physique category will each receive RM2,000 and a trophy, while runners-up RM1,000, RM500, RM250 and RM150 respectively.
They will also bring home medals and hampers.
Meanwhile, top winners in each category will qualify for the Champion of Champions event, which offers another RM300 for the bodybuilding category and RM200 for the physique.
