KUCHING: The State Budget 2019 will bring great hope and a brighter future for Sarawakians, especially the rural folks in more remote areas.

This is because under the budget, the Sarawak government has set aside RM6.049 billion or 67 per cent of the budget for the development of such areas, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas in describing the budget.

Uggah, who is also the Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development, was commenting on the State Budget 2019 which was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

Abang Johari had said Sarawak would have a budget of RM10.513 billion, which is an increase of RM3.547 billion or 51 per cent as compared to RM6.966 billion last year.

Uggah believes the allocation will surely expedite the rural transformation process.

“Our rural people can expect more roads, bridges and water and power supply projects besides other amenities and utilities coming their way.

“These will be very much welcomed by them,” he said.

He also described the State Budget 2019 as unprecedented in terms of revenue and development expenditure.

“I must congratulate and praise Abang Johari for his creativity in unlocking resources that can contribute to the state revenue.

“It is a very focused budget.

“It will stimulate high level economic activities to provide employment and opportunities to the people.” he said.
