BINTULU has the potential to become a tourist destination as it has various attractions to offer tourists like jungle-trekking, a bird park, the Tanjung Batu beach and the Similaju National Park – all of which can be great attractions if properly and vigorously promoted.

In making this call, Tanjong  Batu assemblyman Chiew Chiu Sing says despite these attractions, not much has been done to develop the basic tourism-related facilities.

“There are so much and so many things that we can do (about tourism development) in Bintulu, but we are doing so little, so slowly – we don’t even have a tourism map on Bintulu,” he said when debating the Supply Bill 2019 during the DUN sitting yesterday.

“So let us start something now and do the basic development on the various tourist spots first and later on, further develop our scenic areas in phases.”

Chiew told the august House that some South Koreans had recently wanted to go on a deep-sea fishing activity in Bintulu, but had a hard time just to rent a boat for a package like a four-day, three-night excursion.

As such, he called upon the government to take up the challenge and collaborate with the private sector to make tourism another success story for the division.
