KUCHING: A married couple could face the gallows, if they are found guilty of drug trafficking.

Head of Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (CID) Supt Sahar Abd Latif said the couple, aged 36 and 37, were arrested following a raid on their house at Merdang Garden in Kota Samarahan, around 1pm yesterday.

“A check on both of them yielded no contrabands, but further inspection on the house yielded 32 plastic bags containing substance, suspected to be Syabu, weighing 472.30g.

“We also found one transparent plastic bag, also filled with the same substance, weighing 72.02g,” said Sahar in a statement.

He said Syabu of the same weight as the substance found during the raid is estimated to be worth RM81,656.

The couple is now beingb detained pending further investigations.

Apart from the substance, cash, jewellery items and three cars belonging to the couple, worth about RM169,080, were also seized from the house.

The case is investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“Initial investigation leads us to believe that the trafficking activities began last year,” said Sahar.
