Iswardy speaks to reporters after finding out that the election date for PKR Petra Jaya branch has been changed to today.

KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Petra Jaya branch chief candidate Iswardy Morni has lodged a police report at Simpang Tiga police station, over the last-minute change of election date.

Based on the polling schedule distributed by the PKR election central committee last week, he said PKR Petra Jaya was supposed to hold its election yesterday – at the 11th hour, however, it was deferred to today (Nov 11).

“No reason was given, but we suspected that it was  deliberate to confuse the voters and bring down the number (of turnout),” said Iswardy when contacted yesterday.

It is learnt that the voting centre for PKR Petra Jaya is the Seri Liny Hotel at Jalan Haji Taha here.

Meanwhile, the polls for PKR Bandar Kuching branch, which has 557 registered voters, took place at PKR Sarawak headquarters here yesterday.

When contacted, the branch’s election person-in-charge Simon Sia Sygen regarded the process as ‘a smooth affair, which went on without any hitch or altercation’.

Members check their names before casting their votes at PKR Lanang polls.

“Everybody has been quite civil – this is something that we Sarawakians should be proud of,” he said, adding that they had expected a turnout of at least 100 voters – ‘quite a normal number’, according to him.

In Serian, PKR members cast their votes at SJKC Serian multipurpose hall, while those in Kota Samarahan did so at the hall of the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) there.

Today, the PKR party polls will take place in Petra Jaya – still at Seri Liny Hotel, the Pandan Escape at Jalan Lundu-Pandan for PKR Santubong branch, PKR Sarawak headquarters (PKR Stampin), and Puncak Borneo Parliamentary service centre in Kampung Bratan (PKR Mambong).

E-voting is set to commence at 9am and conclude at 4pm.
