Hadif, Angel and Bernett grab early lead

KUCHING: Junior golfers stole the limelight at the Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) Club Championships yesterday when Muhammad Hadif Fathely and Angel Hii grabbed the first day lead in Men’s and Ladies gross categories respectively at KGS, Petra Jaya.

Hadif fired a gross score of 76 strokes to lead defending champion Daniel Yeo Thian Chai by three strokes while two other juniors Bernard Yeo Chun How and Saxen Hii Shang Yao are tied with Daniel in second spot with similar scores of 79.

Tied for third a stroke further are Lee Kah Ming, Helmi Hipni and Sukma golfer Aziel Teo Ken Yi.

The Ladies Club Championship saw defending champion Angel Hii looking strongly poised to complete a hat-trick of wins as she shot a gross score of 79 to lead her nearest rival Eva Puyang Deng by nine strokes.

In third place on a 87 is Asha Nabeela Abdul Rahman and two strokes further in fourth place is Lia Rajemah Sharmainie.

Meanwhile, Bernett Ling Soon Kiong returned the day’s gross score of 79 strokes to lead Sarawak Golf Association president Hoan Kee Hock by one stroke in the KGS Senior Club Championship.

In third to fifth positions are Waili Abang (84), Yakop Jalel (84) and defending champion Abdul Aziz Sahari (86) respectively.
