Def 4: PAC to begin proceeding of audit report on 1MDB

KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will begin its proceeding on the Auditor-General’s report concerning 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) this Dec 4.

Its chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, said the committee had also sought the view of Attorney-General Tommy Thomas on the matter and was informed that it would not interfere with the 1MDB-linked criminal charges that had been brought to the court.

He said the proceeding would probe into whether there was any constraints or hindrance faced by the National Audit Department when auditing 1MDB.

“PAC will also see if there is any tampering with the facts and information in the 1MDB audit report before its tabling to the committee.

“PAC will begin the proceeding during the first week of December by calling former Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang as the first witness,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Prior to this, when debating a motion on the 11th Malaysia Plan Mid-term Review in the Dewan Rakyat, PAC deputy chairman Wong Kah Woh claimed that changes were made to the Auditor-General’s Report on 1MDB by the previous government and that several agencies, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Attorney-General’s Chambers and Bank Negara were also “crippled”in pursuing the matter. — Bernama
