LAHAD DATU: A six-year-old girl was killed in a road accident at Felda Sahabat while a man died in another accident at Km 36, Lahad Datu-Tawau road on Monday.

Both victims were believed to have drowned following the accidents.

Lahad Datu police chief ACP Nasri Mansor disclosed yesterday that the girl was among three passengers in a Proton car that was involved in a road mishap at Felda Sahabat 11 road about 2.15 pm. The car was reportedly traveling from Lahad Datu to Felda Sahabat 16.

“From initial investigation, it is believed that the driver had lost control of the car after hitting a pothole on the road which caused the vehicle to overturn and plunge into the nearby river.

“The driver was able to pull out all his passengers from the car, but the little girl was found dead, believed from drowning,” he said.

In the other incident, a 22-year-old man was killed, believed to be from drowning, after his Toyota car plunged into a waterlogged ditch at Lahad Datu-Tawau road.

Hasryan Ungkari, a Tawau Forestry Department employee, was believed to have lost control of his vehicle when negotiating a bend which caused his vehicle to skid and plunge into the ditch.

According to Nasri, the victim was heading towards Tawau from Lahad Datu and was reportedly not drunk. His blood sample, however, had been taken for analysis.

He added that both cases were being investigated under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987.
