Columbia Asia Hospital-Bintulu opens new building extension

BINTULU: Columbia Asia Hospital-Bintulu (CAHB) launched its new building extension here yesterday that included the upgrading of its healthcare services and facilities as well as more medical disciplines and skilled consultants.

“In order to fulfill the needs of the growing population and vast development in Bintulu, Columbia Asia Hospital-Bintulu remains committed to continue to transform to meet the healthcare needs of the people in Bintulu,” said chief executive officer of Southeast Asia Columbia Sdn Bhd Kelvin HC Tan during the launching ceremony.

He said CAHB not only caters to local residents and government sector but also the multi-national corporations based in Bintulu.

Come next year, he said Columbia Asia will be celebrating its 22nd year in operation in Sarawak with the first ever Columbia Asia hospital started in Miri in 1997.

To date the group has 30 hospitals in operation covering four major countries in South Asia.

“Every Columbia Asia Hospital including Bintulu has a Medical Advisory Committee that consists of heads of department of each medical and surgical discipline which is chaired by the chief of Medical Services based at the hospital,” said Tan.

He added above this committee is the Columbia Asia Medical Advisory Board (MAB) consisting of the chiefs of Medical Services from all Columbia Asia Hospitals.

The enhancements of CAHB inspired its tagline ‘ Transforming to Meet Your Healthcare Needs’.

Three additional medical disciplines were introduced namely dermatology, urology and radiology.

There is also an upgraded Occupational Health Department. CAHB also has an Ambulatory and Scope Unit.

The Radiology Services are also expanded to include Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), CT scan, Ultrasound, Mammography and X-Ray with Teleradiology facility and PAC system.

Other upgrades include a fully equipped Physiotherapy Unit, an in-house cafe Columbia, a CEMPIA system whereby patients and visitors can give instant online feedback on a tablet and CAHB also has been using Columbia Asia app for patients to make appointments, checking results and soon making payment.

At the launching event, guests were taken on a tour of the hospital and its new building.

The tour was led by Columbia Asia regional general manager (East Malaysia) Yeoh Kim Looi and CAHB general manager Hazlim Sham Ibrahim.

This was followed by a talk on corporate health transformation by CAHB’s Occupational Health consultant Dr Lee Yuan Teck.

Also present at the event were Bintulu District medical officer Dr Norliza Jusoh and representatives from corporate and government agencies in Bintulu.

Today (Nov 17), CAHB is organising its Community Health Day from 8am to 3pm which is open to the public.

Among the family-friendly activities held were family fun run, little kids zumba, kids fashion show and special appearance by Zoey, the parrot mascot of Columbia Kids Club.
