KUCHING: The newly completed SJKC Stampin here will be officially handed over to the education department by the developer of the project San Chin BBC-JV Sdn Bhd on Monday.

The company’s managing director Lee Chin Teck said the school was the first undertaken by a private development company through a land swap.

“We had a land swap and built the school adjacent to the Gala City Integrated Development project. It costs RM17 million and located near the old school,” said Lee at a press conference held at the school yesterday.

He said the official handing over of the school will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, and the public is invited to attend the event at 10am. Light refreshment will be provided.

He added that aside from replacing the school block, the project would help ease traffic congestion at Jalan Tun Jugah especially during lunch hour.

The new school building has 30 classrooms compared to 12 previously, and starting next year, the school will operate one session only.

He hoped that the new facilities and conducive learning environment will motivate the pupils to excel in their studies.

Meanwhile, the school headmistress Chong Siew Fong said that the school is focused on 21st century teaching, co-curriculum, discipline and character building of its pupils.

She also encouraged parents to work with the school to inculcate discipline in the pupils as this should be taught at a young age.

Also present was State Education Department School Supervisor Leong Beng Keong.
