KUCHING: A family of six was left homeless when fire destroyed their house at Taman Woon, Jalan Matang here on Saturday.
There were no injuries reported during the incident as family members were out at the time.
House owner Mazlan Abu Bakar, 49, when met said the family had earlier gone to Kuching International Airport to fetch his mother, who arrived from Kuala Lumpur, prior to heading out for dinner.
“I was notified of the fire by a neighbour and immediately rushed back.
“Unfortunately, our house was already destroyed by the blaze when we arrived,” he said, adding he had yet to estimate the family’s total loss.
Meanwhile, a Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesperson said the department received a distress call at 10.31pm and deployed personnel from its Petra Jaya and Batu Lintang stations to the scene.
“The fire gutted the house and damaged a car parked in the compound. No reports of injuries were received in the incident,” said the spokesperson.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
