KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will function as a platform to explain to the people on the need for Barisan Nasional (BN) Sarawak to leave BN and form GPS.

It will also be platform to inform the people of GPS continued struggle to demand for Sarawak’s eroded rights to be restored as well as to seek for the devolution of power from the federal government to state government.

These are the views of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women chief Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah and Youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu respectively following the confirmation made by Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that registration of GPS has been approved.

GPS consists of PBB, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP). GPS being a coalition will also take in other parties if three of the four components agree to it.

“Thanks be to God that the registration of GPS is now a reality. This is a much awaited decision. Its registration will make it much easier for the PBB Women, Youth wings or main body to move on the ground to explain to people the reason of formation, objectives and the struggles of GPS,” said Fatimah who is Minister of Welfare, Community Well-being, Women, Family and Childhood Development and Dalat assemblywoman.

Rentap said the GPS Youth will rally strongly behind Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in ensuring that Sarawak’s rights enshrined in the Malaysian Agreement 1963 be restored and that development in the state is continued according to the plan tabled in the last State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.

“Only Sarawakians can determine our future,” said the Layar assemblyman.
