KUCHING: AirAsia will add extra late night flights to accommodate travel demand on popular routes for the upcoming Chinese New Year period between January 31 and February 12 next year.

AirAsia offers fixed low fares of only RM99 onwards one-way from Kuala Lumpur to Penang, RM149 from Kuala Lumpur to Miri, Sibu and Kuching and RM199 from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu.

AirAsia Group chief executive officer Tony Fernandes said, “We are a supply and demand airline so fares go up when there is more demand, especially during the festive period. But if there was no AirAsia, prices would be even higher.

“As the people’s airline, we have found a way to help people by offering extra late night flights for Chinese New Year at fixed low fares, and we wish to thank the government for their assistance in securing approvals.”

Minister of Transport YB Loke Siew Fook thanked the low cost carrier for the additional late night flights announced today by AirAsia.

“As what I mentioned before, by having more flight frequencies during the festive period, we hope the prices for the popular routes during Chinese New Year can remain low and I am happy to see this reflected on the added late night flights.

“I encourage everyone who is going back during this festive period to take this opportunity and book their flights now.”

Guests traveling during the Chinese New Year period are advised to arrive at the airport earlier to avoid congestion, and to use our web check-in and mobile check-in services for maximum convenience. Web and mobile check-in services are available from 14 days before to 1 hour before the scheduled time of departure.
