KUCHING: President of State Reform Party (STAR) Lina Soo congratulates Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) on the approval of the Sarawak-based political entity.

“We congratulate GPS and hope they will come up with good government policies to benefit the rakyat,” she said, in a statement sent to Borneo Post Online via WhatsApp today.

In view of the latest development, Soo said Sarawak Baru parties – STAR, Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB), Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) and Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) – will meet again soon to chart out their direction.

“In the meantime STAR will play its role as effective opposition to both GPS and Pakatan and provide the check and balance.

“STAR’s political aspiration is always for self-determination where the people of Sarawak must have the political will to decide our own political, cultural and economic future,” she said.

Lina stressed that the destiny of Sarawak lies in the hands of the people where they have the right to choose the government of their choice to reflect their own desire and aspiration, not just follow political parties blindly.

“Voters must choose wisely in the 12th State Election to safeguard and protect Sarawak,” she concluded.

Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Monday said the registration of GPS has been approved and the Registrar of Societies (RoS) will be issuing the official letter in the next few days

He was responding to Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi (PBB-Kapit), who asked about the status of the application from GPS because it had been more than three months since the application was made.

GPS consists of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

These parties, which formed the ruling Sarawak government, announced that they were withdrawing from Barisan Nasional (BN) on June 12 to form GPS – not long after the 14th general election in May.
