KAPIT: SK Sungai Amang (SKSA) here received praise from Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat for its excellent achievements in academic and co-curricular activities over the years.

Saying the primary school has improved remarkably, he thanked headmaster John Lang Likong and his team of dedicated teachers for their commitment and dedication to educate the young.

“Please keep up this noble value to give your best to the school and pupils. Today, you lay the foundation for their learning. When they grow up and become successful, they will always remember your good deeds. That’s the greatest reward of being an educator,” he said.

He was speaking at the presentation of excellence awards ceremony of SK Sungai Amang at Kapit Civic Centre yesterday which was attended by community leaders, parents, pupils and teachers of the school.

He pointed out that children’s education is not the sole responsibility of the school but a collective responsibility of the school, parents and the community.

“Parents have confidence in this school. Now, SKSA, a mission school, has become parents’ first priority in registering their children because they see the conducive learning culture here,” he said, adding that due to its good record, enrolment at the school has increased over the years.

He also talked about the importance of inculcating discipline in children at an early age.

“I appeal to teachers and parents alike to help shape pupils’ good discipline, moral conduct and behaviour. Positive attitude is fundamental to success in education.

“Disciplined pupils know how to divide their time for studying and relaxing. Attending school is not just to acquire knowledge and skills. It is equally important to have good character, discipline and good manners to be successful,” he reminded. He suggested that parents who can afford it to bring their children for sightseeing during the long school holidays for them to see and learn new things.

While congratulating the school, he said it should not rest on its laurels but continue to improve as “there is always room to improve”.

He announced an allocation of RM10,000 for the parent-teacher association of the school to carry out activities to benefit the pupils.

Latter, he officiated at the school graduation and prize-giving ceremony.

Earlier, John Lang commended Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi and Jamit for being very supportive of the school and for always following the school’s progress.

The highlight of the activities was the presentation of prizes to high achievers of each of the 22 classes from pre-school, and Year 1 to Year 6.
