KUCHING: An attempt to transport 4,100 metric tonnes of coal to Bangladesh, with royalty of RM120,000 at Tanjung Manis area on Nov 22 was foiled through the cooperation between the Customs Department and Marine Department Sarawak.

The coal was being transported without sales approval from the Sarawak government or export permit from the federal government.

The case is being investigated under the Mineral Ordinance 2004.

The success was the result of collaboration between 18 state and federal agencies under project ‘Key Focus Activity’ that falls under ‘Sarawak Civil Service 10-20 Action Plan’ initiative.

The project successfully came up with a direction and standardised procedure on the sale of minerals from Sarawak.

Through the project, all sales of minerals from the state require prior approval from the state government to ensure that sale of minerals are under control and does not affect the supply for domestic market.
