KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has sworn not to ‘surrender’ Sarawak to be led by other political parties including the Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Party Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) veteran leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said that the people are united to have local parties governing Sarawak because they realised that only local parties have a better understanding of the needs of the state.

He said that there is no need to bring parties from West Malaysia to Sarawak especially in fighting for the rights of Sarawak which had been eroded for all these years.

“Sarawak is happy when the Ministry of Home Affairs approved the registration of GPS.”

“The approval will give us the opportunity to promote GPS and no longer have to depend on the old stories when we were still with Barisan National (BN),” said Wan Junaidi who is also Santubong MP.

He said so when met by reporters after the Minor Rural Project (MRP) Grants Award Ceremony at the Santunbong Parliamentary Service Centre here today.

Wan Junaidi added that the GPS will organise roadshows to explain the objectives of the party to the people of Sarawak now that their registration has been approved.

“We made the decision to organise the roadshows a few months back while waiting for the approval from the Registrar of Societies (RoS),’ he said while adding that the flag and logo of GPS will be revealed to the public in the near future.

GPS comprises four political parties namely Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

GPS was formed after the four political parties decided to exit the Barisan National coalition after the defeat in the 14th general election.

During the ceremony, Wan Junaidi gave MRP grant totalled RM114,300 to 40 organisations for the Santubong parliamentary area in assisting their efforts to carry out activities in the area.
