Critical for GPS to safeguard Sarawak’s rights — Minos

KUCHING: If the newly- registered GPS is well promoted from now on and if the people of Sarawak know and accept the new political entity, GPS will surely succeed and win decisively during the next state election.

Political observer Dato Peter Minos said it is important for the people of Sarawak to not just ‘hear’ about GPS but they must know and believe its aims and objectives which are to promote and safeguard Sarawak’s legitimate rights and interests.

“What Sarawakians are keenly interested in now is how GPS will get back Sarawak’s powers as spelt out in MA63 and how GPS will get more funds from Petronas,” said Minos in a press statement yesterday.

According to him, GPS leaders should simultaneously tell and convince Sarawakians as to why they had to leave the BN as the party has been around for years and accepted to the point of becoming a “natural party” among Sarawakians.

“The Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has openly and publicly stated that Sarawak could only be run and ruled by Sarawakians as it takes a Sarawakian to understand another Sarawakian,” he added.

He noted that the statement made by Abang Johari did not sit well with the PKR and DAP Sarawak members which was expected.

“If Sarawakians go in full force for the slogan only Sarawakians can rule and govern Sarawak, PKR and DAP Sarawak which are controlled and dominated by Malayan leaders and seen as a Malayan based party, will see a natural death in Sarawak,” he added.

According to him, this scenario is most likely to happen as Sarawakians are beginning to perceive that only Sarawakians are fit to run the state and not those from the Peninsula or their local cahoots and proxies.

“This sentiment works in favour of GPS. Call it Sarawak nationalism or whatever, it has in fact been in existence long before Malaysia in 1963,” he added.

The sentiment he said is now being talked and revived openly with intensity due to the recent words of Abang Johari.

“This is especially so, when the PH Federal Government appears to not be friendly to GPS and Sarawak,” he added.

Sarawakians, he added will thus do themselves and Sarawak a very big favour by going all out for GPS and giving no face to PKR, DAP and Pakatan Harapan no matter what they have pledged and promised.

All the promises made by the PH he said up until now have proven to be largely hollow and empty.
