KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Amcorp Group Berhad executive chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim have been appointed new pro-chancellors of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for a three-year term ending Sept 30 2021.
UMS vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr D Kamarudin D Mudin made the announcement at the UMS 20th convocation ceremony, here yesterday.
The two new pro-chancellors received their appointment letters from Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin who is also UMS chancellor before 793 graduates at the first session of the convocation ceremony.
Earlier while congratulating Mohd Shafie and Azman on their appointment, Tun Juhar expressed hope that the two leaders would steer the university to greater heights.
“Hopefully the university will continue to succeed with their energy and resources ,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tun Juhar reminded the graduates to avoid laziness as this would lead in failure to achieve their goals or contribute to the progress of the nation.
The convocation ceremony will see 5,003 graduates receiving their diplomas, doctorates, masters and bachelors degrees. — Bernama
