KAPIT: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Kapit Youth members have been called on to become agro-entrepreneurs by pursuing modern farming.

Kapit Member of Parliament Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi made the call during SDNU Kapit Youth’s thanksgiving dinner on Thursday.

“I urge you to be proactive in organising more useful programmes for members such as getting yourselves to know the potential of using your assets, like plots of land, where you can do modern farming.

“I want you to turn into agro-entrepreneurs because now there are better scientific methods to increase production and also for the implementation of effective and productive methods to enhance production and marketing strategy,” he said when officiating at the event.

He pledged the support of elected representatives in introducing and recommending members to various agencies and departments, including the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development under Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Nanta said such development programmes would help rural youths to increase their
income.

“My advice to you is to continue with meaningful and useful programmes when you utilise the funds that have been given to you in the future,” he said.

Nanta also announced a government grant of RM10,000 for the organisation, while Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang and Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat announced grants of RM5,000 each.

Children of SDNU Kapit Youth and Melatai Sports Club members also received education incentives during the event.

The Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah high achievers to receive the incentives were Rollerwinsthie Wilson, Dominic Ankam, Ernesstine Jane, Hendrik Banadas, and Thomas Ezra.

Form 3 Assessment recipients were Nigel Ngumbang, Wiedya Schermeilly Tony, and Antonio Jingan.
