KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will continue to play its role in promoting Telaga Air as a tourist destination under its jurisdiction.

Its deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said this is in view that Telaga Air has the potential to attract both local and international visitors.

“Telaga Air is quite strategic because it is located near the sea and therefore suitable for recreation, especially with its beautiful views and peaceful ambiance – making it ideal for visitors, particularly families, to spend the weekend.

“For those who are interested, there are also homestay accommodations provided here and they come packaged with deep-sea fishing activities,” he said when closing the Telaga Air Festival 2018 here yesterday.

Ahmad was representing Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who is Pantai Damai assemblyman, at the event.

On the festival, Ahmad described it as a great way to promote Telaga Air as a tourist destination.

He said this is in line with the objective of introducing Kampung Telaga Air to local and foreign visitors who can see for themselves the activities that go on at a Malay fishing village situated on the outskirts of the city.

At the same time, he pointed out that it also promotes seafood eateries in the area, thus contributing to the income of the local community through the food and beverage business.

Earlier, Ahmad flagged off participants in the Telaga Air Nature Challenge and also witnessed several events held in conjunction with the festival such as sepak takraw competition, futsal competition, ‘poco-poco’ competition and children’s colouring competition.

Other activities that were held included kayak and power boat race, karaoke competition, fishing competition, and seafood-cooking competition.
