LAHAD DATU:The shooting incident that injured an Indonesian tugboat skipper in the waters of Kinabatangan-Tambisan Wednesday, was under investigation by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom).
Commander Datuk Hazani Ghazali said in the 8pm incident, the man in his 40s was shot while towing Mantran 2 boat, with 13 crew members, travelling from Bintulu to Papua New Guinea.
The Mantran 2 was carrying two Malaysians and 11 Indonesians.
“Another boat believed to carry four individuals with firearms approached the tugboat, before one of the men shot and hit the victim’s thigh. The suspect’s boat fled to Tambisan waters,” he said when contacted here, yesterday.
Hazani said the other crew members were unhurt and the skipper was taken to Lahad Datu Hospital for treatment.
He added Esscom is still investigating the motive of the incident whether it was a robbery or kidnapping attempt. — Bernama
