South Korea firm to invest US$100 million in SIP

KUCHING: Sarawak is expected to receive a US$100 million investment from a South Korean company Dongjin Semichem Co Ltd.

The company, led by its vice chairman Joonkyu Lee, had a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at his office in Wisma Sumber Alam here on Wednesday to finalise a proposed factory at Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP), in Bintulu.

Once completed, the factory will be their third foaming agent production plant, after two others in South Korea and Indonesia.

Lee said items produced by the factory would be mainly used in the manufacturing of semi conductor, automotive and household products. It is expected to provide job opportunities to about 700 locals.

Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur and Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) Development Datuk Naroden Majais and permanent secretary to the Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development Datu Liaw Soon Eng were also present at the meeting.
