KUCHING: A lorry driver was assaulted yesterday by members of the public after he rammed into two parked vehicles while attempting to flee an earlier road accident.

The incident is said to have begun when the 10-tonne lorry rear-ended a compact car, causing the car to strike another vehicle in front of it.

Instead of stopping, however, the lorry driver allegedly sideswiped the compact car and sped off, resulting in the fuming compact car driver giving chase.

The pursuit ended about 200 metres away at Jalan Batu Perak, Kampung Stakan Melayu when the lorry went out of control and plowed into two cars parked along the side of the road, before crashing into the perimeter wall of a nearby house.

Angry onlookers then allegedly pulled the lorry driver out of the heavy vehicle and beat him up.

Meanwhile, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel were dispatched to the scene following a distress call at 3.20pm.

According to a Bomba spokesperson, firefighters arrived at the scene to discover the lorry driver had sustained injuries from the alleged beating, and provided first-aid treatment before handing him over to the police for further action.
