Power supply to five premises cut off in illegal gambling ops

KUCHING: Electricity supply to five premises in Batu Kawa and Matang areas were cut off during an integrated crackdown on illegal gambling by authorities on Friday.

Padawan District police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the operation was jointly-conducted by the district’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB), under the provisions of Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

He also pointed out that all the premises involved were repeat offenders, which have had their electricity supply cut off during previous raids.

The anti-illegal gambling operation, which involved five police personnel and five SEB officers, covered two premises in Batu Kawa New Township, and one each at Lee Ling Commercial Centre, the mini-mart at Jalan Matang-Batu Kawa, and an outlet in Synergy Square.
