KAPIT: A landslide has occurred along Jalan Kapit-Song, after the Sungai Lajang bridge, around 20 minutes’ drive from Song bazaar.

Heavy rainfall is believed to have triggered the landslide, causing earth, stones, and debris to wash down the hillside by the side of the R3-standard road.

It is understood that the landslide also blocked part of the storm drain in the area.

While the road is passable, further rain could cause more landslides and endanger road users, especially motorcyclists.

Road users have called on the authorities concerned to address the issue, as landslides are said to occur frequently in the area.

They have also requested the authorities to erect warning signs to ensure motorists are alert and more cautious when using the stretch of road.

Jalan Kapit-Song, which is 44km long, was completed in October.

The journey between Song and Kapit now takes just an hour by road.
