SIBU: Staffers of University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) have been told to give their full commitment to the development of the university.

UCTS chairman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said the success of UCTS depended much on the commitment of its staffers.

Speaking at an appreciation dinner of UCTS at RH Hotel on Tuesday, he said: “I know that for any institution to be successful, it needs hardware, software, and most important of all, the ‘heart ware’.

“That depends on the attitude of the people working inside; the capability, the ability of the people working within.

“It depends on how conscientious these people are working together in this institution.”

Wong, who is Second Finance Minister and Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce, stressed the importance of the entire staff force showing full commitment, dedication and total involvement in the running of the university.

He hoped that UCTS would not just be a household name for Sibu and Sarawak but an institution of high stature in the international scene.

Meanwhile, vice chancellor of UCTS Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid said UCTS has become another landmark for Sibu.

“Our facility has become a photogenic spot for newly-weds. Almost every week we see people coming to UCTS for photography sessions,” he enthused.

He also mentioned that the university is working hard to bring in foreign teaching staff next year.

Also present at the event were Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King and deputy chairperson Rogayah Jamain.
