BESUT: The ‘MyOnline Passport’ application introduced by the Immigration Department last year, especially for passport renewal, received lukewarm response, said Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali.

He said until December this year, there were only about 10,000 applications received through the online system out of the 2.5 million applications received by the department a year, or 200,000 applications a month.

“Hence, the need to educate the public to use the online system. Although it will take three days  to process, it helps to reduce congestion at the immigration offices, especially during the school holiday.

“When applying online, the applicants only need to come to the Immigration Office and wait for 10 to 15 minutes for verification to get their passport,” he told reporters after opening the Besut branch Immigration office in Kampung Raja here today.

Also present were Immigration director (Security and Passport) Datuk Mohd Zulfikar Ahmad and Terengganu Immigration director Rahim Hanaffi.

Mustafar hoped that more people would use the online application to renew or apply for new passport for their own convenience. – Bernama
