KUCHING: An elected people’s representative has expressed his frustration over what he sees as ‘poor supervision’ by the Public Works Department (JKR) and the main contractors of the ongoing Pan-Borneo Highway project.

Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang took to social media to vent his dissatisfaction over the poor condition of some of the stretches, which posed danger to motorists.

“I have been receiving lots of complaints from road users, especially about the Sibu Airport Roundabout-Selangau-Bintulu stretch. They complained about potholes, which had damaged vehicles, caused tyres to burst and also contributed to frequent accidents,” he wrote on Facebook.

Gira also mentioned about the lack of safety signage at the construction areas.

“I would like to call upon those involved in the Pan-Borneo Highway construction like the JKR and LBU (Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd – the delivery partner of the highway project) to supervise the works, and the contractors to ensure that all  roads are in good condition and safe for public use at all times.”

On the comments section of Gira’s post, many netizens had tagged Works Minister Baru Bian regarding many road issues, including the incident last Friday that resulted in the traffic between Kuching and Sri Aman coming to a standstill, due to a sinkhole at the KM53 section of the Pan-Borneo Highway.
